What the specs mean for your build

The 20A gate. Controller amps ≈ panel watts ÷ battery volts × 1.25. A 200W array on a 12V bank: 200 ÷ 12.8 × 1.25 ≈ 19.5A — inside the rating, with essentially no margin. The same array on a 24V bank needs half that (≈10A) and leaves real headroom to grow. A 300W array on 12V (≈29A) is already the 100/30’s job, not this one’s. That single calculation decides this review’s answer for you.

The cold-morning check. Panel Voc rises ~0.3% per °C below 25°C. Two 100W panels in series (22V Voc each) = 44V at STC; on a −10°C morning: 44 × 1.105 ≈ 49V — comfortable. Three panels: 66V → ~73V cold — still fine. Four: 88V → ~97V — almost no margin under the 100V ceiling, which makes the 150V line the honest next step, not a fourth panel.

Who it’s for: first-time builders whose math lands at 10–20A on a 100V rail — one or two panels into a 100Ah-class 12V bank, or a small 24V array — who want VictronConnect monitoring and lithium presets without paying for headroom they can’t use.
